“With Diana Damrau in the title role there was much anticipation with the fans present to hear the current best Lucia in the world. The expectations were correspondingly high. And they were even exceeded! The audience in the sold-out house witnessed Diana Damrau’s breathtaking intensity, vocally as well as in her gestural presentation. Already in her opening aria in the first act ( “Regnava nel silenzio”) the audience was delighted and showered her formally with bravos. The same was the case in the following duet of the secretly lovers Lucia and Edgardo ( “Sulla tomba che rinserra”). Ravishing and highly emotional performances were sung by her and her stage partner, tenor Piero Pretti. And of course she was crowned with her own special vocal resources and the brilliant sextet in the second act ( “Chi mi frena in tal momento”) which was also one of the many highlights of this evening of opera in concert.

Her coloratura in the famous “mad scene”, Act Two / 4 image ( “Il dolce suono”) rang out crystal clear in conjunction with the glass harmonica , almost unearthly and deeply touching. Her final dramatically expressive “Spargi d’amaro pianto” with the outstanding voice on the concluding highest note literally tore the audience from their seats.

Diana Damra, a world star with a world-class performance!”

Diana Damra, ein Weltstar mit einer Weltklasseleistung!}

Detlef Obens – Das Opernmagazin

“In Diana Damrau noticeably pulsates the fresh blood of the London “Lucia di Lammermoor” production, whose heroine she portrayed in a live cinema broadcast. Without sets we experience music as theater. Diana Damrau demonstrates the suffering of the betrayed (for clan interests) Scottish noble with scenic devotion.

Where customarily fellow galas of this quality have at best a trembling brow, except this soprano with archaic rage That may seem intrusive to purists, but nothing is astonishing in Damrau Performance Show. And the girlish soprano she still makes a pure and bold dive into abysses and conveys truly scary “Fantasma” calls before the voice, softly, deeper as easily before the altar in the hereafter is – and a little later of a pianissimo on the perceivable edge the audience sits on the edge of the seat. Each syllable is sung thoughtfully, chosen. This madness has method!”

Wo Kolleginnen Galas dieser Güte allenfalls mit bebender Braue gestalten, stürzt sich der Ausnahmesopran mit archaischer Wut und kindlicher Freude, wortwörtlich mit Witz und Wahn in Donizettis Monsterpartie. Das mag Puristen aufdringlich erscheinen, doch nichts in Damraus erstaunlicher Performance ist Show. Und ihr immer noch mädchenhaft reiner Sopran taucht mutig ein in Abgründe, mobilisiert wahrhaft schaurige „Fantasma“-Rufe, ehe die Stimme, subito, so schwere- wie mühelos vor dem Altar im Jenseits steht – und wenig später mit einem Pianissimo an der Grenze des Wahrnehmbaren ihr Publikum auf die Stuhlkante zwingt. Jede Silbe ist durchdacht, gestaltet gesungen. Dieser Wahnsinn hat Methode!}
