News - The latest about Diana’s engagements and recordings

Diana Damrau has been honored with an Austrian Music Theater Prize, given in recognition of her unforgettable performance as Leïla in Bizet’s Les pêcheurs de perles at the Theater an der Wien (2014). The awards, announced in Vienna by the Austrian Music Theater Prize Association, herald the artistry of acclaimed musicians, creative personnel, and producing companies, and are voted on by luminaries of the classical music industry.

Ms. Damrau’s award-winning portrayal of Leïla was lauded by critics and audiences alike:

“The passionate, unflinching moments of Act 2 and 3 are her forte, where she is absolutely convincing … a demonstration of vocal acumen which matches her impressive physical dexterity and abandonment.”

-The Opera Critic

“She’s exquisite. She rises to the challenge of the high notes with fierce, bright singing – exactly as one imagines the fearless Leila might do. The richness in Damrau’s voice also adds an earthy sensuality to the part.”
