“Diana Damrau thrilled as a vocally sensational and dramatically mature countess. It is she who, by her disguise, regains the love of her husband.”

{Diana Damrau begeistert als eine stimmlich sensationelle und schauspielerisch reife Gräfin. Sie ist es, die durch ihre Verkleidungsintrige die Liebe ihres Mannes wieder zurückgewinnt.}

Thomas Schacher – Neue Zürcher Zeitung

“… when Diana Damrau enters as the Countess, a decade after singing Susanna on this stage, we get a performance of special gravitas. Even the orchestra, tight-reined under Franz Welser-Möst’s baton, melts to such grace. Strehler once warned of “the diabolical danger in the craft of interpretation”. With a singer like this, he might not have worried.”

James Imam – Financial Times

“Star of the evening was Diana Damrau, a vocally sumptuous Countess with admirable legato and incomparable phrasing.”

Renato Verga – Bachtrack

“Diana Damrau as the Countess was terrific on stage, always singing with intention and giving shape to all her phrases. She delivered a magnificent ‘Dove sono’ – one of the best interpretations of this aria that I can remember. She was also superb in the duet with Susanna …”

José M. Irurzun – Seen and Heard International

“In the role of the Countess we had the pleasure of hearing the soprano Diana Damrau, who has performed so expressively and musically flawless in the two sublime arias that Mozart entrusted her, “Porgi amor” and “Dove sono i bei momenti”

{Nel ruolo della contessa abbiamo avuto il piacere di ascoltare il soprano Diana Damrau, che si è esibita in modo espressivamente e musicalmente impeccabile nelle due sublimi arie che Mozart le affida, “Porgi amor” e “Dove sono i bei momenti”.}

“In the vocal cast, made up of mostly the names of foreigners, the beautiful Countess of Diana Damrau has excelled. Strong emotional poignancy is sung on her lips in the cavatina “Porgi amor” authentic in giving space to mourning for the sudden marital infidelity. The German soprano then gave a magnificent musical characterization to the second big aria of the Countess (“Where are the good times”) in which the artist has been able to find a true expression of melancholy on the past and then move on, with great vocal clarity, all in the Allegro finale.”

{Nel cast vocale, costituito di nomi per la maggior parte stranieri, ha primeggiato la splendida Contessa di Diana Damrau. Di forte pregnanza emotiva il suo canto a fior di labbra nella cavatina “Porgi amor” autentica nel dare sfogo al compianto per l’infedeltà coniugale subita. Il soprano tedesco ha poi dato una magnifica caratterizzazione musicale alla seconda grande aria della Contessa (“Dove sono i bei momenti”) nella quale l’artista ha saputo trovare una veritiera espressione malinconica sul passato per passare poi, con estrema lucidità vocale, all’Allegro conclusivo.}

Ludovico Buscatti – OperaClick

“There was instead great satisfaction on the vocal front, with a top level international cast. Starting from the most anticipated debut, ten years after the success in Milan in the role of Susanna, the La Scala debut of Diana Damrau in the new role of the Countess it has fully lived up to expectations. Her vocal maturity and great interpretive  capabilities allow the German soprano to fully sculpt in Le nozze di Figaro, Scala 2016 an extremely complex and multifaceted character, the melancholy of the cavatina “Porgi amor qualche ristoro” the amused nell’architettare “una burla innocente” to the detriment of her husband … In both of the two big arias, performed masterfully, the voice is always well executive and clear despite the increased fullness acquired over the years, enhanced by an expression that is calibrated to perfection, from the direct tonal outbursts to the most delicate pianissimo.”

{Grandi soddisfazioni invece sul fronte vocale, con un cast internazionale di primo livello. Partendo dal debutto più atteso, dieci anni dopo il successo milanese nel ruolo di Susanna, l’esordio scaligero di Diana Damrau nei nuovi panni della Contessa è pienamente all’altezza delle aspettative. Maturità vocale e grandi capacità d’interprete permettono al soprano tedesco di scolpire a tutto tondo un Le nozze di Figaro, Scala 2016 personaggio estremamente complesso e sfaccettato, dalla malinconia della cavatina “Porgi amor qualche ristoro”, al tono divertito nell’architettare “una burla innocente” … In entrambe le due grandi arie, eseguite magistralmente, la voce è sempre ben timbrata e limpida nonostante la maggior corposità acquisita nel tempo, valorizzata da un’emissione calibrata alla perfezione, dallo squillante sfogo in acuto fino al più delicato pianissimo.}
