News - The latest about Diana’s engagements and recordings

Diana Damrau and Richard Strauss – that is a magical combination of music, singing and language. Under the baton of Jérémie Rhorer, the star soprano presented songs by Richard Strauss together with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen on September 4, 2021, followed by the “Metamorphosen” in “Der Glocke” Bremen.

Diana Damrau’s love for Richard Strauss began during her studies and has accompanied her throughout her international career. The almost magical connection between music, singing and language in Strauss’s works is always a special experience for the singer. Musikfest visitors were already able to share in this experience in 2019, when Ms. Damrau performed two Strauss songs as an acclaimed encore after a recital with harpist Xavier de Maistre. Now the artist returns to “Die Glocke” to present a selection of Strauss orchestral songs. She will be accompanied by the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen conducted by Jérémie Rhorer, who will then play Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 3 in D major.

Diana Damrau’s connection with Jérémie Rhorer, the 2017 Musikfest prizewinner, is also a long-standing one. For her debut album “Arie di Bravura”, the choice for the accompanying orchestra in 2007 fell on the French conductor’s recently founded new formation Le Cercle de l’Harmonie. As the collaboration was highly successful, it was continued a year later for the second album “Mozart Donna”. The audience can be curious to see how the two of them, together with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, will make Strauss’s songs such as “Das Rosenband”, “Ständchen” or “Wiegenlied”, which are characterised by lush romanticism and at the same time touching intimacy, blossom.
