On September 21, the curtain will rise on Richard Strauss’s masterpiece Der Rosenkavalier at the Opernhaus Zürich. This performance marks the 30th anniversary of ​​SRG and ARTE’s partnership and will be broadcast by both broadcasters.

ARTE’s live broadcast will start at 10:20 p.m. and be subtitled in six languages ​​on arte.tv, where the production will remain available across Europe for six months thereafter. The production will be shown on Swiss television on SRF 1 the same day. It will be broadcast on Radio SRF 2 Kultur on September 28 in the program ” Im Konzertsaal.”

The production boasts a top-class cast: Director Lydia Steier stages Strauss’s opera based on an aesthetic concept by the Austrian artist Gottfried Helnwein, known for his provocative photorealism. Diana Damrau embodies the Marschallin, and American mezzo-soprano Angela Brower plays Octavian. Austrian bass Günther Groissböck rumbles across the stage as Baron Ochs von Lerchenau. Joana Mallwitz, chief conductor of the Konzerthaus Berlin, conducts the Zurich Opera Orchestra.
