News - The latest about Diana’s engagements and recordings

Diana Damrau’s performance in the title role of Katie Mitchell’s new production of Lucia di Lammermoor at the Royal Opera House will broadcast into cinemas LIVE worldwide on April 25. Find your theater location at the following link; please note some locations will screen delayed broadcasts on a later date.

The production features set designs by Vicki Mortimer (enjoy a brief preview and video trailer), with Daniel Oren leading from the pit. The cast also includes Charles Castronovo as Edgardo and Ludovic Tézier as Enrico.

“In her big Act 1 aria, Diana Damrau (aided by Daniel Oren’s measured conducting) vividly incarnates that erotic thrill both in her exquisitely ornamented vocal line and in the voluptuous writhing of her body.

Her later unhinged state, Mitchell proposes with acute perception, is the result of a traumatised woman driven to an act of desperation. Damrau is a superbly expressive Lucia . . .”

Barry Millington – The Standard

“Musically, Katie Mitchell’s new production of Lucia di Lammermoor sees the Royal Opera at something approaching its very best. It is not just Diana Damrau in the title role who dazzles, although she very much stands as the first among equals. Her soprano is clean and precise so that her soaring lines pierce our hearts, while never feeling extravagant or overblown, and her pianissimo passages penetrate the air with a haunting clarity.”
