News - The latest about Diana’s engagements and recordings

Diana Damrau sings the role of Leïla in a new production of Bizet’s Les Pêcheurs de Perles at The Metropolitan Opera beginning December 31, and continuing January 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 23, 27 & 30, 2016. This is a signature role for Diana, whose portrayal has been characterized as “radiant” (Bachtrack) and the “passionate, unflinching moments of Act 2 and 3 are her forte, where she is absolutely convincing . . . in a demonstration of vocal acumen which matches her impressive physical dexterity and abandonment.” (The Opera Critic)

She is joined by a spectacular international cast for this production, including Matthew Polenzani as Nadir, Mariusz Kwiecien as Zurga, and her husband bass-baritone Nicolas Testé sings Nourabad. Maestro Gianandrea Noseda leads the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and Chorus for this Penny Woolcock directed staging. Enjoy video previews of the production featuring Damrau and Kwiecien in the Act III duet and “Ton coeur” with Ms. Damrau and Mr. Polenzani. It will also receive a Live in HD broadcast into theaters worldwide, on January 16.
