News - The latest about Diana’s engagements and recordings

After the long break due to the COVID-19 cancellations, Diana Damrau makes her much awaited return to the operatic stage as the title role in Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda at the Opernhaus Zürich, where she originally made her role debut in the spectacular David Alden production. Salome Jicia portrays her rival Elisabetta, Paolo Fanale sings Roberto, Earl of Leicester, and Nicolas Testé is Giorgio Talbot. Enrique Mazzola leads the orchestra again.

Maria Stuarda opens September 27, with three additional performances on October 7, 11 and 15. The September 27 performance will be broadcast live and will be available for 48 hours on the Opernhaus Zürich’s Oper für alle digital page.

These performances will take place with full orchestra and chorus, which will broadcast live to the Opernhaus from an external rehearsal hall, in compliance with distancing regulations, while the singers perform live on stage.

Of her role debut, Opera News raved: “Throughout the opera, Damrau was musically and dramatically magnificent. She rose superbly to the myriad challenges of this great, multifaceted role: in particular, her limpid soft singing and seemingly limitless breath control were extraordinary.”
