Wiener G’schichten in Vienna
Nov 1, 2025
On November 23, Diana Damrau will pay homage to composer Johann Strauss on the occasion of his 200th birthday, and to Marie Geistinger, the first director of the Theatre an der Wien and the most famous German-speaking operetta diva at the time. Strauss wrote the main roles of his first four pieces for her, and the program will revolve around these pieces alongside some of the roles Strauss wrote for her rivals, uniting all the historical divas in a present-day one and painting a complete picture of Viennese operetta full of fire and joie de vivre.
Ms Damrau joins forces with the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, led by conductor Ernst Theis, and with Michael Dangl, who created the concept ideas and text, and who will also perform.
